At last, a flat course!
We finally found it—a flat course in the middle of Lynchburg, also known as “The Hill City.”
Observations About Playing a Flat Course
1. The Course Played Faster
For whatever reason, it felt like we played this course much faster than the other courses in the area. Granted, it is only nine holes, but we moved through it very quickly.
2. A Better Score
I recorded my best round of disc golf on this course. I attribute that to the flat terrain, which left me less tired and in less pain than when I play hilly courses. I was thrilled to score several pars and two birdies.
3. Flat Terrain Is Better for My Arthritis
It was nice walking a flat course. I have severe arthritis in both knees, and navigating hills causes significant discomfort. While I was still in some pain, it was far less than I normally experience on hillier courses.
Course Overview
Our outing took us to Living Word Baptist Church. The course is located on church property and is closed during certain times. On Mondays and Wednesdays, the course is closed from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., as well as during any church services.
Terrain
Flat. Okay, it’s a little more than that, but the flat terrain is what I enjoyed most.
Holes 2 through 8 play through the woods, but the fairways are wide and easy to throw through. Hole 1 is in an open field, while Hole 9 features a mix of wooded and open-field play.
Amenities
None.
Maintenance
The course was well maintained. The grass was cut, and the wooded paths were clear of debris.
Holes 1 through 5 feature concrete tee pads covered with artificial turf, all of which are in great condition. Holes 6 through 9 have dirt tee areas marked with either a wooden log or stake to indicate the front of the tee box.
Signage
There is no hole signage identifying hole numbers or distances from the tee pads to the baskets. There are handmade signs directing players to the next tee box, but many are faded or have fallen to the ground.
If you’re playing here for the first time, I recommend using the UDisc app to navigate the course.

Conclusion
What stood out most about this course was the flat terrain. My pace was noticeably faster, and I moved through the course with much less effort than I normally do on the area’s hillier layouts. As a result, my game felt smoother and more rewarding. Instead of focusing on the physical challenge of climbing hills, I was able to concentrate on my throws and enjoy the round. The reduced strain on my knees also helped me stay comfortable throughout the course, making for one of the most enjoyable disc golf experiences I’ve had in the Lynchburg area.
