Disc Golf Ramblings: Fun with the Son
On this outing, my youngest, Ryan, joined us for a round. Even though he is much better than I, I still enjoyed being able to spend the time with him. I don’t get to see him often as he lives 9 hours away. We are planning to play when we go visit him, which I am looking forward to. He lives in very flat area. Woohoo, no hills. Here are some observations from our round
1. Experience is a difference maker.
Ryan has been throwing discs much longer than either myself or Calvin. He was telling me stuff about the course and its markers I was unaware of. I need to learn more about the course and its markers.
2. Youth has its advantages.
Calvin and I are both pushing into our 60s, Ryan is in his 30s. You could tell the difference. Ryan made throwing the disc look effortless and easy. Calvin is a much better thrower than I but he still didn’t look as strong or as smooth as Ryan. Plus, he was less winded walking up and down the hills.
3. Have as much fun with your children no matter what age.
Never think you’re too old to have fun with your children. You got to enjoy them when they were small, try to do the same as they get older. They will move away or move on with the lives and the time you get to spend with decreases. Take every advantage you can to see them.
Course Review
Today’s round was at The Cove at Rainbow Forest in Lynchburg, VA. It was designed by a local disc golf store called Foundation golf. It was established to give beginners and juniors a place to play and enjoy the game. It is a nine-hole course that I found challenging, even though it was designed for beginner players. Most of the course is in a wooded area with hills and a creek that makes the area a little marshy, otherwise it is a nice course. The course is maintained sufficiently but could use a little work.

Conclusion
I enjoy playing with Calvin, but I look forward to playing with my son again. I hope to play with my middle son, James, one day soon. Maybe one day I can get them to meet me in somewhere and we will all play a round together. Now, to get my oldest boy to start playing, we could make it a foursome and enjoy each other’s company.
